Sarah Walters' father died seven months before she was married. William Walter, planter in Trinity, husband to Sarah, was buried on 11 March 1772, aged 56 years, born circa 1716. At the time of Sarah's marriage, her mother was listed as a Planter in Trinity. When William died, his widow was left with five children between the ages of three and fifteen to support, so it is assumed that she took over and carried on her husband's fishing business.

Note: Mark Beston was listed as a Planter in English Harbour when daughters Joanna and Jane were christened, but listed as fisherman when son Robert was christened. William Penny Jr. and Margaret Ivamy, both of English Harbour, married on 11 October 1804. William was the son of William Peney and Ann Jones. Ann Jones was the daughter of William and Hannah Jones. William Batson, of William Penny Batson and Johanna Bestone, married on 24 April 1890 Rhoda Freeman; their son Arthur Kenneth Batson, born 11 August 1899, married Judy Long, daughter of William Hillier Long and Sarah Nurse; Arthur Kenneth and Judy had daughter Lydia Batson.
