That Wooden Cross

There beside that wooden cross
I stand with head bowed low,
I know He suffered there for me
On the hill of Calvary
Just because he loved me so.

I feel the love and mercy there
And forgiveness for my sin,
I know He’ll heal my wounded soul
And bring me back into the fold
If I will only let Him in.

I gaze upon his gentle face,
His sacrifice I clearly see;
Then I offer Him my praise
And my hands I slowly raise,
As I fall on bended knee.

There beside that wooden cross
As the tears begin to fall,
I realize it was for me
And my heart breaks silently
When I hear his whispered call.
