I Wish I Were

I wish I were a poet,
That I could put in rhyme
The thoughts I'm thinking now,
Preserve them for all time.

I wish I were an author,
That I could write a book;
Someone might find pleasure
When on its page they look.

I wish I were a singer,
That I could sing a song
So full of love and peace,
The world would sing alone.

I wish I were a teacher
To teach the very young,
No book should go unread,
No song should go unsung.

For the good things in this life,
So often they are free;
They're ours for the taking
If we value what we see
