If I could walk beside you
On the sun-warmed, sandy beach,
And feel my hand clasped warmly within yours;
Then, to have you turn towards me,
Feel your touch upon my cheek
As gentle as the waves that kiss the shore.
If I could be beside you
In the stillness of the night,
And listen to the birds so sweetly sing;
Just to spend some time together,
Maybe share a dream or two,
And find the kind of peace that true love brings.
If I could wake beside you
In the beauty of the dawn
And watch the sun rise slowly in the sky;
Then to hear you whisper softly
We have made a memory
That will grow sweeter as the years go by.
If I were there beside you
When the world seems at its worst,
And we both need someone to hold us near;
We could hold each other closely,
Offer comfort and support,
Then smile and wipe away each other's tears.
