Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkins have done very well again this year. Lord and Lady Hawke don't eat pumpkin themselves, but an ample supply of jam has been bottled for use by the others throughout the winter. There'll be lots of hot pumpkin pies on Sundays.

The Pumpkin Patch is also where the entries for the Best Halloween Pumpkin are judged. The winning entry is usually chosen the day before Halloween and the winner gets a trophy with his or her name and the year engraved on it, as well as a cash prize of course. That was Lady Hawke's idea. Since the entries are usually done by children, she thought it would encourage more participation.

After the judging, all the pumpkins are used to make pies, cookies, muffins, bread, pickles, jam and all sorts of goodies. At midnight there's a huge feast for all those who live and work on the estate, as well as anyone else who wants to attend. The feasting and dancing usually lasts until dawn.
