Dorfinelda

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU ENTER THIS ROOM!

This is my private space! Yes, I am a dragon. My name is Dorfinelda. Who are you and what are you doing here? I do not like intruders - I am not a trusting dragon. People can be just as greedy as dragons and they might try to steal my treasure.

You're just here to look, is that right? Well, okay then, come on in. That's fine ... right there. I'll get nervous if you get too close and when I'm nervous, I can't always control my fire breath.

Tell you about myself? Why would I want to do that? Oh... very well.
I am a female dragon and I think I am the last of my family line. My grandfather was born on Atlantis, so was my father, but my mother was born somewhere in China. I was born in a secret place deep inside the mountains of Tibet. Mine was the only egg that hatched out of a clutch of eight. Then the snowstorms came and my mother took me away to an uncharted island in the South Seas. My father stayed with the other eggs and I never saw him again. We think he got frozen while trying to protect the eggs.

Dragons don't have an easy time of it, you know. People have always been afraid of us. They try to drive us away or kill us if they can. It was nice there on the island with my mother, but she flew off in search of something one day and never came back. I was just learning how to fly and couldn't fly very far. It was very lonely there by myself. As I grew, my wings got stronger and I was able to fly farther and farther without getting tired. Then, one day, I just knew I was strong enough to go all the way across the ocean ... and I did!

I found this place by accident, by following an underground tunnel. It became a great hiding place for my treasure. No one knew about the natural caves and tunnels here when they began excavating the dungeons and wine cellar. As long as they left me alone, I left them alone. It's worked out quite well, really. I must say, though, the present owners are more accepting of me than any of the previous ones were.

What do you mean, what will happen to my treasure when I die? Dragons don't die... not from natural causes, that is. We are creatures of myth and fantasy, which never die... at least, not as long as people remember to use their imaginations... and, in some cases, a little creativity to help things along. As long as their are people with active imaginations... who are not afraid to let them take flight... there will always be dragons. That's why I live here at Hawke's Hill. This place is nothing but imagination... and creativity... and it's awesome! I love it.

Yes, it is a well-known mythological fact that dragons love gemstones, jewels and jewellery. I do have a cache but, like all dragons, I choose to keep most of it hidden... and I can assure you, it is well hidden.

It took centuries for me to collect it all. Oh, there's lots more than what you see here, but most of it is hidden in The Maze. No, you can't go into The Maze ... well, not yet anyway. I have to get the place mapped first. I can find my way around in there but you would get lost. Then I would get the blame and I don't like being blamed for things that are not my fault. After all, if you're silly enough to go into The Maze and get lost, what can I do about it? I can't stop you. But I'd probably have to go rescue you. So that's why you can't go in there.

I do love looking at it... so many vibrant colours... so bright and sparkly... there is nothing to compare with it. That's why I keep a small portion of it here beside me.

No, I will never share it, but... perhaps I will decide to give you a little peek... next time you visit... maybe... I am not ready to do that yet... perhaps I will never be ready but... I might change my mind. You will just have to wait and see, won't you?

Now I think it's time for you to leave. It's time for me to take a nap. At my age I need plenty of sleep and if I don't get it I can get very cranky. That is not something you want to witness!
