The Nursery

Shelves Hoots the owl

Hello. I am Mr. Hoots. Who are you? And what are you doing in the nursery? There are no young children here now so this room has pretty much been abandoned. When the Hawke children were young it was kind of busy here. But I must confess, I do like the quiet. It's much easier to think when it's quiet. And owls think a lot. How else do you think we got to be so wise? By the way I do have my own ... er ... space up here where I work on my own thing.

Nanny When the Hawke children were young, Lord and Lady Hawke thought they needed a Nanny. So they hired a dragon. Actually, it turned out to be a pretty good choice too. They called her Nanny Drag. Anyway, Nanny Drag was quiet, as dragons go. She was very knowledgeable and had all kinds of patience with them. They could ask questions 24 hours a day and she never got tired of answering them. On days when she's not too busy, she will accept visitors.

However, what they liked most of all were her stories. She could make up a story in the blink of an eye. And they were good, too. After the children grew up, she missed it all and was feeling kind of at loose ends. Then I suggested that she should make up more stories, like the ones she told the children, and put them in a book. She did that and, once word got around, the book became a best seller ... in some circles, that is. So Nanny Drag has a new career - as a writer! She is currently working on her second book but I'm not quite sure if it's more stories, or a kind of instruction manual for nannies. Like I always say, you just never know when opportunity will knock but you better be ready when it does.
