Richard Dewey of Bonavista

There is a strong possibility that Richard Dewey of Bonavista may have been a brother of John of Trinity, who came from Tincleton, Dorset, England. It is almost certain that they were closely related. John had a son named Richard. Both men had daughters named Mary.

Richard and his wife, Ann, had a daughter named Mary, who may have been their only child, or only surviving child. Maryís husband, John Green, was in charge of her fatherís fishing room at Bonavista in 1805, indicating that Richard probably had no [surviving] sons to take it over.)

Note: Another possible connection between the family of Richard Dewey of Bonavista and John Dewey of Trinity Ė the name Miriam. Johnís son, Richard, had a daughter Miriam; Richardís son, Joseph [grandson of John], also had a daughter Miriam; and Maryís daughter Jane (granddaughter of Richard of Bonavista) had a daughter Miriam. Miriam did not appear to be a common name in either of those areas at that time so, therefore, a connection between the families is highly likely. After his wife, Jane, died Charles Granger married again on 05 May 1859 Mary Lockyer
